McGrathNicol expands Perth team
Insolvency specialist McGrathNicol has expanded its Perth office with the appointment of two local forensic specialists from rival accounting firm KPMG, Michael Shanahan and Darren Michael. Mr Shanahan will join the practice as the firm’s third Perth partner, with James Thackray and Norman Oehme. Mr Michael joins as a director. McGrathNicol has built a profile in Perth through its administration work with collapsed businesses like Great Southern and Rewards Group.
Fullarton takes on Aspen CFO role
Brett Fullarton has been appointed as chief financial officer of property developer and funds manager Aspen Group following the resignation of Simon Martin. Mr Fullarton has been with KPMG for the past 30 years and a partner of the firm since 1994. He is a commissioner with the WA Football Commission and has served as a council member with the WA division of the Property Council of Australia. Mr Fullarton was one of three KPMG partners who agreed in 2009 to temporarily stop practising as auditors following their involvement in the collapsed Westpoint investment group.
Weber joins AbaF as councillor
Jeff Weber has been appointed as a state councillor to the WA chapter of the Australia Business Arts Foundation, which works to give business a creative edge and helps to make artistic visions a reality. Mr Weber is managing director of Mermaid Marine Australia.
Carapetis succeeds Stanley at Telethon
Paediatrician and infectious diseases specialist Jonathan Carapetis has been appointed successor to Fiona Stanley at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research. Professor Carapetis, who will take up the directorship in July 2012, is director of the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin and was named as NT Australian of the Year for 2008.
