DiscovEx Resources has stretched its Hercules prospect to a whopping 7km of anomalous gold found in soil after a sampling program at its Edjudina project, about 200km north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia’s Yilgarn region.
The extensional program completed north of the Hercules target produced multiple higher-tenor anomalies within the broad anomalous zone, adding to several prospective targets already identified at the project.
DiscovEx says the program of 372 soil samples were taken to test for a northern extension to the Hercules target at Edjudina, which lies about 4.5km east of the high-grade surface anomaly at its Spartan prospect. Previous sampling at Spartan returned results of up to 0.54 grams per tonne gold.
The company says among the many anomalous results of more than 10 parts per billion gold from the program, several higher-tenor anomalies greater than 25ppb were identified within the broader zone. The best result obtained from the recent program was 47ppb gold.
DiscovEx Resources managing director Toby Wellman said: “The Hercules anomaly in particular is an extremely exciting target given it has been defined over a lateral extent of 7km and has soil samples peaking at 92ppb Au. The sheer size of this anomaly is very encouraging and given it has never been drilled, has the potential to be a significant discovery opportunity.”
The higher-tenor locations provide the option for the company to focus on the discrete areas that produced the best results from the recent sampling campaign, with the biggest zone defined at more than 1.5km and including the previous best result of 92ppb.
Management says the new target areas add to a highly-prospective target pipeline, including Spartan and its best soil sampling result of 544ppb and a drill hit of 1m at 3.42g/t gold, in addition to Hornet West with a soil result of 126ppb and a drill intersection of 1m going 5.3g/t.
Hornet East also produced 142ppb in soil and a 1m hit at 1.5g/t gold.
DiscovEx’s Edjudina is a greenfields exploration project covering an area of about 1180 square kilometres, with more than 50km of under-explored greenstone-gneiss rocks and multiple surface gold anomalies. The company says it is a tier-one location surrounded by multiple historical, existing and expected future mining operations.
The project has seven target areas resulting from anomalies generated from soil sampling programs. Another notable target area is the Colossus prospect, with a soil result of 23ppb and a 1m drill hit of 0.63g/t gold.
Interestingly, management says drainage patterns have originated at Colossus, with the mineralisation from drilling encountered at the end-of-hole potentially representing the source of all surface gold anomalies.
DiscovEx has another exciting project on its books, with Sylvania being a multi-commodity play for gold, base metals and iron ore. It says there has been limited historical gold exploration in the area, despite Capricorn Metals’ Karlawinda gold project that hosts a 2.2-million-ounce gold resource immediately to the east of Sylvania.
With a grab-bag of geochemical targets all begging to see the drill bit, things could get interesting for DiscovEx going forward.
