Georgiou Group has been awarded a $16 million contract to build a multi-storey car park for the City of Joondalup.
The five-storey car park will provide 560 bays of public parking at 28 private lease car bays on Boas Avenue.
Work will commence in August, while Georgiou said the project would have a peak workforce of 65.
The car park is expected to be complete midway through next year.
Georgiou Building general manager Frank Dilizia said the company won the tender from a competitive field of major builders.
“When Georgiou Group expanded their capability into the commercial building sector five years ago, we set out to provide the best service to our clients, focusing on safety, best value price and quality and innovative solutions,” Mr Dilizia said.
“The most recent win for a key client in the City of Joondalup reinforces the reputation that we have been able to achieve with our team to date.
“Having successfully delivered a number of projects for government clients, we look forward to delivering the Boas Avenue car park safely, on schedule and to a high standard.”
Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said Georgiou’s submission represented the best value for the city.
“Georgiou Group has demonstrated experience in the construction of multi-storey car park facilities and has a thorough understanding of the requirements of the project, supplying a detailed methodology, program and site plan,” Mr Pickard said.
“Georgiou Group also has large number of personnel and resources to ensure the delivery of this very important project and also offered the best lump sum price from the final three short-listed tenderers.”
The car park was designed by Hames Sharley Architects.
Mr Pickard said the extra bays would be a significant boost for the Joondalup city centre.
“The growth in the Joondalup city centre through an increase in local businesses and residential dwellings has created pressure on the parking network, which makes the construction of a multi-storey facility very important for the city,” he said.
“Fees from paid parking, which was introduced in the Joondalup city centre five years ago, has helped contribute significant funds towards the project.”
The project adds to a long list of projects Georgiou is currently constructing, including its $28 million office project on Loftus Street, the $18 million Cambridge Medical Centre, $6 million in fitout works at St John of God medical centre, a $15 million office building in Armadale, the $8 million Knutsford Apartments in Fremantle and the $34 million Pocket apartments at Claremont Oval.
