CFC merges Cape Crushing, Underground Services units

Diversified investment and development company CFC Group has combined its mining services and infrastructure businesses to form a single subsidiary, in response to the tough mining environment.

Perth-based CFC has merged its Underground Services Australia and Cape Crushing and Earthmoving businesses into a single unit to operate under the brand name, Cape.

CFC purchased Cape Crushing from engineering and construction contractor VDM Group for $46 million in 2012, and Underground Services in 2009 for an undisclosed sum.

“The merger of the two companies brings together the mining services, haulage and crushing expertise of Cape Crushing with Underground Services’ leading experience in utilities and infrastructure, under one roof as the business looks to capitalise on the combined synergies of both entities,” the company said in a statement.

Cape executive general manager Peter Rowles said the merger made the group a leaner, more efficient and more competitive business.

“Our aim is to provide world-class civil, mining services and utilities solutions to the resources, infrastructure and utilities sectors,” he said.

Mr Rowles said it had been a tough environment to work in, particularly the mining industry, but that the rebrand had come at the right time for CFC.

“It’s given us a renewed focus on increased productivity, cost efficiency, value through innovation and continuous improvement that will allow us better service our current clients’ needs as well as win new contracts to support future growth,” he said.

“The creation of the single entity Cape strongly positions the company in the market for future growth and we’re committed to this while ensuring quality, consistency and innovation in what we do.”
