New directors for Perth Festival
Seven Group executive director Ryan Stokes (pictured) has been appointed to the Perth International Arts Festival board and the UWA Senate has reappointed Michael Smith for a further four-year term as chairman of the board. Mr Smith has been on the Festival board since 2002 and was appointed chairman in 2004. Jonathan Holloway, current artistic director and chief executive of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival, will take over the artistic direction of the Festival for 2012-2015, following the departure of current artistic director Shelagh Magadza after the 2011 Festival.
Spence, Smyth on MRRT team
Treasurer Wayne Swan has named former Rio Tinto executive David Klingner, former Woodside number two Keith Spence (pictured) and fellow ex-Woodside executive Erica Smyth (pictured) to the mining tax implementation committee that will be co-chaired by former BHP chairman Don Argus and resources minister Martin Ferguson. The group will advise the government in the development of the technical design of the tax and the transition of existing petroleum projects to the proposed PRRT.
Rimes resigns as MD
Matt Rimes has resigned as managing director of Iron Ore Holdings for personal reasons. The company will commence a search for a replecement immediately. In the interim Mal Randall will act as executive chairman, with support from non-executive directors Richard Court and Brian O’Donnell.
Western Power plays
George Cash has been appointed to the Western Power board of directors. Mr Cash was a member of WA parliament for 25 years. John Cahill has been appointed deputy board chair and Mervyn Davies and Doug Aberle (pictured) have been reappointed as board directors. Anne-Marie Clark has been appointed executive general manager operations, while Paul Italiano has been appointed as general manager corporate services.
Thomas, Hamer at Notre Dame
Jan Thomas has been appointed as deputy vice-chancellor of The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle campus. Professor Thomas has spent the past seven years as deputy vice-chancellor (academic) at Murdoch University. Before this she worked as an academic in the School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. Meanwhile, Peter Hamer has been appointed as dean of the newly established School of Physiotherapy at Notre Dame. Professor Hamer has been leading the physiotherapy program at Notre Dame for the past five and a half years.
Mazzella boosts Indian Ocean team
Indian Ocean Advisory Group, specialist growth and corporate advisers, has appointed Michael Mazzella as a director. Mr Mazzella has more than 10 years’ experience specialising in family and growing business matters including taxation, superannuation and business planning.
Pang ISS Group CEO
ISS Group has appointed Richard Pang as chief executive officer. Mr Pang has been with ISS since 2002 and was most recently the regional manager for Asia/Middle East. Prior to this, he held the position of business development manager of Asia/Middle East.
Lazzara, Carmignani to Borello
Borrello Legal has appointed Joe Lazzara as a principal. Mr Lazzara is currently vice-president of the WA Chapter of the Franchise Council of Australia, the peak industry body for the franchising sector. He brings more than 13 years of experience in general commercial, commercial property and franchising law to the firm. Jonelle Carmignani has been appointed as practice manager, bringing with her 20 years experience as a PA in the legal sector.
Ryan joins Talbot Olivier
Talbot Olivier has appointed Jarrod Ryan as special counsel within the liquor and hospitality practice. Mr Ryan most recently practiced in Adelaide, acting for national and international hotel groups.
Scott Universal COO
Universal Resources has appointed Iain Scott as chief operating officer. Dr Scott’s previous roles include managing director of Tucker Gold, Windamurra Vanadium and general manager of operations for Straits Resources.
Goodacre’s Apache role
Apache Energy has appointed Jack Goodacre as petroleum engineering manager, operations. Mr Goodacre will be responsible for managing Apache’s producing wells.
